2D DESIGN SUMMER CLASS TBA
8 Weeks to Think, Design & Create Like a Professional Concept Artist.
I want to change the way you approach design, from your first idea to your final portfolio project.
Creating beautiful artwork is one thing. Developing a strong design that communicates an idea, solves problems, and tells a story is something entirely different.
Many artists spend years improving their drawing and painting skills but struggle when it comes to creating original projects, developing ideas, or building a portfolio that demonstrates their actual design abilities.
That's exactly what this workshop is about.
Over eight intensive weeks, we'll take you through the creative process behind professional concept art and design.
You'll learn how to approach unfamiliar challenges, research new subjects, generate ideas, explore possibilities, make confident design decisions, and turn rough concepts into compelling portfolio projects.
But there's a twist.
The first four weeks are about discovering how you work as an individual. The final four weeks are about learning how to create together.
Because being a professional artist isn't just about what you can create on your own. It's also about how you think, communicate, collaborate, and solve problems with others.
What You'll Experience
Weeks 1–4 The Individual Challenge
Learn to think like a designer.
You'll develop your own original project, moving through the creative process from initial research to your first developed designs.
We'll explore:
Idea Generation & Blue-Sky Thinking — Learn to generate, expand, and explore creative possibilities.
Research & Inspiration - Discover how to find meaningful references and turn inspiration into original ideas.
Design Fundamentals - Strengthen your understanding of shape language, visual communication, and design principles.
Iteration & Exploration - Learn to explore multiple solutions instead of settling for your first idea.
Worldbuilding & Context - Develop designs that feel believable and belong to a larger creative world.
Portfolio Presentation - Learn how to communicate your design process and present your work professionally.
The goal isn't simply to create a polished image. It's to understand the decisions behind a successful design.
Weeks 5–8 The Team Challenge
Great ideas become even stronger when artists work together.
During the second half of the workshop, you'll collaborate with other participants on a shared creative project.
You'll experience what it's like to work within a team, combine different artistic perspectives, and develop a cohesive visual direction.
You'll practice:
Collaborative concept development
Creative communication and feedback
Working within shared design constraints
Managing tasks and responsibilities
Adapting your ideas to a larger creative vision
Presenting a cohesive team project
This phase is designed to introduce the collaborative thinking and production challenges you'll encounter in professional creative environments.
More Than Just Another Art Class
This isn't about following tutorials or copying someone else's workflow.
It's about learning how to approach a creative challenge when you don't already know the answer.
You'll be encouraged to experiment, question your decisions, explore unfamiliar subjects, and push beyond your usual artistic habits.
My goal is to help you become a stronger creative problem-solver, not just a better illustrator.
Feedback, Mentorship & Community
Throughout the eight weeks, you'll receive:
8 live group feedback sessions
Personalized critiques and guidance
A dedicated Discord learning space
Opportunities to collaborate with other artists
Support throughout your individual and team projects
You'll have the opportunity to share your progress, discuss challenges, and learn from the creative approaches of other participants.
Who Is This Workshop For?
Whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or advanced artist, this workshop is designed for creatives who want to take their design skills further.
It's especially valuable for artists interested in:
Video games and entertainment design

Professional concept art portfolios
Basic knowledge of Photoshop or another digital art program is recommended. Familiarity with Blender or other 3D tools can be helpful but isn't required.
